Wood, water, fire, and earth - the blend of elements creates a sense of energetic peace in this tiny guest house/ glass studio in the woods of Carnation, Washington.

The owners, a pair of artists, sought two things: room to create and a quiet retreat which would double as grandchildren’s space for visits. A transparent “wet zone” anchors the building, housing baths and kitchen space to serve both wings. The east wing, mostly wood, is the retreat and guest house – with sleeping lofts at the top of the tower – and the west wing is the glass studio, concrete its primary material. The entire building will be less than 1200 square feet.
